How To Go Viral On TikTok
Updated: Jul 27
TikTok is quickly becoming a dominant and solidified member of the social media family. The video-sharing platform is extremely popular with people 16-34. Because of its large user base, consisting of 1.5 billion active monthly users all across the globe, it has become a great place for influencers and businesses alike to share content. And just like all the other social media platforms, people want to know how to go viral on TikTok. There are some strategies you can incorporate into your content creation to help your videos go viral.
But before you start reading about them, first, you should ask yourself why you want to go viral. Is it to promote your personal brand or company? Is it to become famous? Is it because you want the attention that comes with viral content? These questions matter. If your objective is to promote your business then you should focus more on building a consistent presence that generates engagement. But if all you want to do is go viral then continue reading and we'll cover some of the different methods you can use to go viral on TikTok.

Trending Sounds
One strategy you should implement whether you want to go viral or just start building a strong brand is to use trending sounds. Popular sounds can boost your videos to the top of people's "For You Page".
Interact with followers
We all get excited when we leave a comment on a video and the poster leaves a reply and reaction. By interacting with and engaging with your followers/audience your posts will get more traction as they will get more engagement from viewers. The more reactions and comments the more likely TikTok is to amplify the video as they will consider it a piece of valuable content.

Short videos
The average person has an attention span of 8 seconds. now, your videos will probably be longer than that but they don't have to be. Shorter videos are also less invasive as they take up less of our time. I'm more likely to share and watch a 1-minute video than a 5-minute video.
Grab attention quick
Capture the attention of TikTokers by offering a powerful hook. This hook needs to make scrollers want to stop scrolling to watch your video. One example of a hook that I've seen that works with me is "10 websites that will change your life". You can experiment with different hooks and intros that generate the most views and engagement and start producing more content with those.

Cross-promote
This is a practice you should be doing even if your goal isn't to go viral on TikTok. Cross-promotion helps lead your viewers from platform to platform in search of your content.
Relevant hashtags
Have you ever been scrolling on TikTok on Instagram or any platform that uses hashtags and been confused as to why you're seeing a certain piece of content? One reason that happens is that people use unrelated hashtags when posting. For example: Let's say you post a video on TikTok of your cat doing a trick. When adding hashtags you tag business, shopping, and anime. Now, your video has nothing to do with those topics. This is not only bad practice but can push your content away from your target audience.

Leverage the Duet feature
Duets are a great way to generate engagement and get millions of people to share your video(s). The more shares the more views and viola you've gone viral just by making content that people want to duet with!
Tell a story
As with any form of marketing or content stories are powerful. I can't count the number of times I've watched long and short-form videos that have a compelling and engaging story.
If you want to go viral on TikTok follow these steps and be consistent. It may take you a few days or even a few months before your videos begin to gain traction.
